FACTS devices#

gpf models shunt FACTS devices as STATCOMs and series FACTS devices as UPFCs.

Shunt devices#

A FACTS record with no series bus (JBUS = 0) is a STATCOM. In control mode 1 it regulates its bus voltage, or a remote bus named by FCREG (REMOT in revision 33 files), to the setpoint VSET; its reactive output is bounded by the shunt current rating SHMX. At the solution the controlled voltage equals the setpoint, or the device operates at its rating.

Series devices#

A FACTS record with a series bus (JBUS > 0) is a UPFC. In control mode 1 the series element holds the scheduled active and reactive power flow (PDES, QDES) at its terminal, and the shunt element regulates the sending bus voltage to VSET. The series current is bounded by IMX, the series voltage magnitude by VSMX, and the shunt side by SHMX. At the solution the schedules and the setpoint are held, or the device operates on a binding rating.
